Sustainability at Olvi

Sustainable development is part of our strategy and is reflected in our day-to-day operations. We promote responsible and sustainable business operations throughout our value chain, from the procurement of raw materials to the environmental footprints of our products and well-being at work. We also help our partners, customers and consumers make sustainable choices.

Olvi’s sustainability themes

In defining our focus areas of sustainability work at Olvi Group, we considered the environment, social responsibility and good governance. Olvi Group’s sustainability has been divided into three focus areas and two themes that are supporting these. Our three focus areas are environment, people and products. These are supported by ethical operating practices and cooperation with the stakeholders.

When defining the priorities of our sustainability work, we have taken into account the megatrends affecting our operating environment and the expectations of stakeholders. Sustainable development, digitalization, consumer behavior and globalization bring both challenges and opportunities to our business.

Our sustainability work in practice

Our goal is to make our water use even more sustainable, to be the best possible workplace for our personnel, and to promote a responsible drinking culture. We also work to protect biodiversity and defend human rights throughout our value chain. Our success is based on impactful stakeholder cooperation and compliance with ethical-operating practices. You can familiarize yourself with our main sustainability targets and metrics here.

We have already accomplished a lot for example related to environmental sustainability. At Iisalmi brewery, we have reached carbon neutrality in its operations and we use EKOenergy ecolabelled electricity. That helps us, among other things to contribute to the access of clean drinking water in low- and middle-income countries.

More information about our sustainability work can be found in our annual report.

Sustainable development commitments as a basis

The background of our sustainability work is influenced by international commitments and agreements. We promote the UN’s sustainable development goals, from especially eight goals are combined with our own sustainability goals. We are also involved in the UN’s Global Compact initiative and are committed to its ten principles both in our own operations and in our value chain. These principles guide our work to promote human rights, workers’ rights and environmental protection, and to prevent corruption.

As the Olvi Group, we are committed to setting ambitious, science-based emission reduction targets as a member of the international Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). The aim is to limit global warming to 1.5 °C in accordance with the Paris Climate Agreement.

Management of sustainability work at Olvi

Our values, strategy, ethical business practices, guidelines and agreements defined at the group level in addition to ethical business practices form the basis for sustainability management at Olvi.

Lean philosophy and operating models as well as certified management systems create ways to work towards our sustainability targets. The members of our professional community play a key role in bringing sustainable development into our everyday work.

The assessment and prevention of sustainability risks is important in order to guarantee stable and sustainable business operations and to promote sustainable development. This way, we can also respond to our stakeholders’ expectations regarding the development of even more sustainable business operations.

“We work systematically at Olvi Group to promote sustainability. We will develop towards carbon neutrality in our operations by 2030, and throughout the value chain by 2040. We will focus on utilising renewable energy, reducing water consumption, and understanding and positively influencing human rights impacts and biodiversity.”
