Environment
We continuously develop our operations to reduce environmental impacts and improve resource efficiency. In addition to developing our own operations, we aim to guide our value chain towards a more positive impact.
Olvi’s environmental impacts arise across the entire value chain. This includes both our own operations and the full supply chain, and we want to develop our activities together with our partners. Good supply chain management and sourcing practices have a significant impact on the environment, climate and society. Concrete measures and results in the areas below are reported annually in the sustainability statement.
Responsibility for the Environment
Protecting nature and biodiversity is a core priority for us. Our most significant environmental impacts include greenhouse gas emissions, water usage, and material consumption.
Environmental responsibility, in this context, means using raw materials, energy and packaging efficiently, promoting recycling and optimising transportation. We actively take measures to reduce our environmental impacts by using renewable energy, improving efficiency and optimising our operations.
Our key focus areas—reducing carbon emissions, managing water consumption and wastewater, and improving material efficiency—define our shared environmental goals and targets. Together with selected value chain partners, we support the development and mainstreaming of regenerative farming in Finland, with related raw materials expected to become available only gradually from the 2027 harvest onwards.
REDUCING OUR CARBON FOOTPRINT
Olvi aims to mitigate climate change both in its own operations and throughout its value chain. The majority of climate emissions originate from the value chain. In accordance with the transition plan for climate change mitigation, the most important tools for reducing value chain emissions are material development and packaging redesign, product portfolio development, and reducing emissions from transportation. Emissions from the company’s own production are reduced through the use of renewable electricity and energy sources, as well as by improving energy efficiency. Read more
SUSTAINABLE WATER USE
We improve our water efficiency by optimising water use and developing washing solutions. We seek ways to increase water recycling and reuse. We invest in efficient wastewater pre-treatment to improve wastewater quality. We aim to ensure the sufficiency of water in our operating area. Read more
PROMOTING THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY
As a manufacturing industry operator, Olvi uses significant amounts of raw materials and packaging materials. We reduce material use, reuse materials and recycle. We increase the use of recycled and surplus materials in packaging and raw materials and seek new ways to reuse side streams from our processes. In addition, we participate in local organisations to develop beverage packaging recycling systems. Read more.
